Modifying the colour of unread document in Notes 8

When using the standard (eclipse based) Notes 8 client unread marks in the inbox are showing in black. The colour to be used can be changed by modifying the file notes.css. Since this something you do not want all end-users to do manually (finding the file in the first place is already hard, especially since it is in a different directory in each version) I have created a little executable that lets you pick a colour, finds your notes.css and modifies the colour to be used for unread documents.

Just run the program, pick your colour and (re)start Notes.....

The program can be download here: Modify colour unread marks

Gravatar Image1 - link doesn't work :(

Gravatar Image2 - Just tested, works for me. If you send me an email (see the contact link at the left), I'll send you the program and instructions by mail.

Gravatar Image3 - Can you please help.. When I read a mail and puts it into a folder, it becomes unread again. Do you know how to solve that problem?

Gravatar Image4 - When I click on link, my SonicWALL Gateway AV says the code has a virus.

Gravatar Image5 - Hi Paul,

can you please send me a screendump of the virus alert. My virusscanner (TrendMicro) does not generate an alert.

Gravatar Image7 - Hi, and thanks for publishing this, but I was wondering if the download is still available as I get a "zero sized reply" error.
Thanks, Mike

Gravatar Image8 - Thank you Almar. Sometimes the silliest things create the biggest headaches - your little app is a god-sent!

cheers.. Ian

Gravatar Image9 - How do I extract the themes from the JAR file? Know this is an easy one, but for the life of me I can not get it out.

Gravatar Image10 - I tried your application on Lotus Notes 8.0.2 and it doesn't work. I receve an error "unable to open file C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\framework\shared\eclipse\plugins\com.ibm.notes.branding_8.0.2.20080809-0430.jar\themes\notes.css"

I am able to extract the jar file to get to the notes.css but I don't think Lotus will load up the uncompressed files only the compressed ones, correct?

Gravatar Image11 - I get same error Jeff gets Emoticon I have tried to un-rar the .jar file and then rar it again but i get errors upon start. I then have to rename the platform.xml file in folder C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data\workspace\.config\org.eclipse.update.

Anyone have a solution to this?

BR,
Bjorgvin

Gravatar Image12 - Just use WinZIP to open the .jar, then open notes.css from WinZIP and edit it. Close Notepad (or whatever editor you use), save your changes. WinZIP will prompt to update archive, answer yes and close WinZIP. Should work like charm. Remember that Notes cannot be running during this process. Emoticon

Gravatar Image13 - Great little program! It prompted me to indicate the Lotus Notes Data folder, then I selected the color.
Went into File/Preferences/Windows & Themes, toggled back and forth between Lotus Notes and Windows theme and it worked.

Thank you!

Gravatar Image14 - Thanks for a great solution.
Good Work keep it up.
