Finally a solution for the Sametime logout issue

As I wrote a couple of weeks ago I had an issue with Sametime since the server-upgrade to version 8.0.2. Whenever a user that was logged in to Sametime using the Notes or Connect client also logged in to iNotes or Quickr with awareness enabled he/she was logged out from the other client.

Today IBM came up with a solution (thanks to Gerard Mullin!!):

on the Sametime server:
- In the directory <Domino data directory>\domino\html\sametime\stlinks\signed there is a signed copy of stlinks.jar.
- In the directory <Domino data directory\domino\html\sametime\stlinks there is the stlinks.jar that the users download for iNotes or Quickr etc.
- Rename the copy of the stlinks.jar in the stlinks folder to stlinks.jar.old, and copy in the a copy of the signed stlinks.jar.
On the client
- Clear the java cache on the user's client PC. In Control Panel -> Java -> Temporary Internet Files -> Settings.. -> Delete Files...

Everything works fine again!

Notes network installation and templates

I have several customers that run Notes with the users data directories on a file server. We always strip the number of templates down to the minimum set required, but that will still mean about 15 MB per user, which in a 2.000 user environment is a lot of data.

So, what we do is put the templates on the local disk and just create database link files in the users data directory. The link files are just small text files with the same filename as the template and with just one line in it, containing the path and filename of the actual template.

For instance for pernames.ntf we create a text file calles pernames.ntf with as content c:\lotus\notes\data\pernames.ntf.

We also tried putting the templates on the Domino server and the point the text file to !!pernames.ntf. This worked just fine during testing but not in a production environment. As soon as two users need to use the same template at the same time, which is especially happening after an upgrade, users will get an error.

Yet another version of the UnreadColor tool

I have now posted a version of the tool that no longer deletes the file platform.xml at the end and therefore takes away the risk of trashing your Notes configuration.

Just download the zip-file and unzip the 3 files form the zip file to a directory. Start the executable ModNotesCSS-RGB.exe and select your color.

After running the tool and selecting your color, just start Notes, go to Preferences, Windows and Themes, select a different theme and click on Apply. Then select the theme you were using and again click on Apply. Your new unread color will show up in your mailfile.

You can download the tool here.

At e-office we've got a couple of Twitter enthousiasts (http://twitter.com/Winchert). We use Twitnotes, Tweetdeck and TwitterBerry, but we've created our own Twitter widget; the iTwidget to Twitter from Lotus Connections.

Today is a sad day...

Today my collegue Louise announced that after 15 years she will be leaving e-office. Although I already knew that this was coming for a while, I must admit that a few tears were shed.

I have had the pleasure of working together with Louise for 13 years, in which period we did several small and large Domino projects together. Louise is one of the ultimate Yellow Bleeders.

Fortunately she will not be moving to the dark side but has accepted a permanent position as Domino administrator/architect at one of our customers.

I will truly miss Louise but I am sure that we will stay in touch and hopefully I will meet her at Lotusphere 2010....
