e-office is door IBM uitgenodigd als partner voor het Lotus Connections 2.5 beta programma. Dit is uniek omdat IBM wereldwijd slechts 20 business partners toelaat tot dit gesloten beta programma. Het beta programma loopt van april tot en met juli 2009. De Lotus Connections gold versie wordt in het derde kwartaal van dit jaar verwacht.

Lotus Connections 2.5 is de nieuwste versie van het snelst groeiende product ooit in de IBM Lotus geschiedenis. Lotus Connections is Enterprise Social Software: Web2.0 software die geschikt is voor bedrijven en binnen de bedrijfsmuren kan worden gebruikt. Social Software stelt een bedrijf in staat om slimmer te communiceren, slimmer samen te werken en sneller mensen met de juiste kennis te vinden. Lotus Connections bestond al uit Profielen, Blogs, Communities, Bookmarks en Activities. Versie 2.5 voegt daar Social Files(haring) en Wiki's aan toe. Het onderdeel Communities is spectaculair uitgebreid. Communities bevat naast het Forum nu ook een Community blog, Files, Wiki's en Activities. Het onderdeel Profielen is uitgebreid met Microsharing functionaliteit (vergelijkbaar met Twitter) en bevat een zogenaamde 'wall' om berichten achter te laten (een alternatief voor het sturen van een e-mail). De laatste grote aanpassing bevindt zich op de homepage. Daar vindt de gebruiker een gepersonaliseerde 'river of news'. Dit is een overzicht van gebeurtenissen binnen Connections die voor de ingelogde gebruiker interessant zijn. Denk hierbij aan commentaar op een blogentry, een statusupdate van iemand in zijn netwerk, een aanpassing in ?®?®n van zijn wikipagina's, commentaar op een gedeelde File, een toevoeging aan een van zijn Activities en een nieuwe post in een community waar hij lid van is. De gebruiker ziet dus in ?®?®n oogopslag wat er voor relevants gebeurt binnen Connections.

e-office is erg trots op haar deelname aan het beta programma. De toelating door IBM aan het beta programma bewijst de status van e-office als strategisch innovatiepartner. Met onze deelname doen we een belangrijke investering in de ontwikkeling van Enterprise Social Software.

But it seems that now it is the Outlook users turn. Microsoft will be using the Word HTML rendering in Outlook 2010 and not all users are happy with that idea http://fixoutlook.org

I must admit that I didn't have a clue myself. I am most of the time in the Netherlands, on my flat-fee connection, no roaming.

However, a couple of days ago I installed our Mobile Data Alerter on my BlackBerry 8310. According to the application I had already used about 7 MB at 7 am in the morning when I got out of bed. My first reaction was telling our developer that his application must have some error. 7 MB during the seven hours that I was asleep?! 24 MB in 24 hours, no way!!

The same amount of data was presumably used three days in a row and therefore last night I decided to do some testing and quit all programs on my BlackBerry before going to bed. So I quit Viiigo, Sametime, Google Latitude and UberTwitter and went to bed. This morning I immediately sent my apologies to the developer because with all applications down and just mail, calendar and addressbook synchronisation I used 108 KB during the night. So the application was right after all.....

I then just started UberTwitter and one hour later I had burned an extra MB!! It turned out that I had enabled GPS tracking in UberTwitter. Disabling GPS brought the usage down to normal figures.

So, I am glad I found this while still in the Netherlands and not after my holidays.

My advice: check what you are running before going on holiday (or leave your BlackBerry at home). The Mobile Data Alerter can be a great help!

One of my customers is not using full first names in the Notes id's but initials. However when there are more persons with the same lastname it is often hard to determine the right person to send an email to. Luckily, since Notes 7.0.2 it is possible to add up to 4 extra columns to the ambiguous name dialog.

Doing so is very easy, just add one or more extra columns to the $users view in the Domino directory (or the personal addressbook). Add the column(s) to the end of the view and give them a programmatic name Address1 to Address 4.



And just have the column display the information you want to show in the ambiguous name dialog.
The column(s) you add are shown after the first column in the dialog box.
