Today I spent a couple of hours on a problem a user had where a mail rule just would not run. I tried everthing, disabled/re-enabled the rule, disabled/deleted/recreated the rule, ran an agent to delete all rules, ran an agent to delete the calendar profile. All without succes!

After a couple of hours I found a draft document in the Lotus Software Knowledge Base, created July 31st, 2007, describing a bug in Notes 7.0.2. It turns out that a combination of the two actions 'Change Importance to' and 'Send Copy to' will cause the rule to not work.

The mentioned SPR #SFIK75LS5T can not be found in the fixlist database although the problem has been solved in Notes 8.x.

In Notes 8.5.1 you will find, besides the already available instant spell checking, Instant Corrections. Instant Corrections work like in some of the well known word processors. It will automatically correct some very common typing mistakes without asking.

It will:

Ever since Notes 8.0 users have been asking for the ability to show unread mail in their inbox red as they were used too. Although there has been possibilities to change the colour (for example my tool). In the upcoming 8.5.1 version of Lotus Notes IBM will give users an option to show unread mail red again!

There will be an option in the preferences letting you choose between the default Bold black text and Plain red text.

Notes 851 has an easy way to deploy a plugin to the widget catalog

The recommended way for deploying a plug-in is using the widget catalog. Right now you have to manually create the extension.xml file that contains the pointers to the feature and updatesite.
In the upcoming 8.5.1 release that task is automated.
Click on the "configure a widget" icon, and this screen pops-up, with a new option:

Enter the url of the updatesite, select one or more features, et voila. The features are added to your widget-sidebar. From there you can share those widgets.
A policy setting allows you to publish all widgets from one or more specific categories to be published to all users.
